More info. on the persecuted church

This morning I taught from Acts 6 and 7 on the first martyr in the Christian faith--Stephan. I promised to post more information here for you to do more study on the persecuted church today.

So here are a bunch of sites to check out.

www.persecution.com This is the website for the "Voice of the Martyrs". They will send you regular email updates of persecution going on around the world. And if you want, they'll send you a free quarterly magazine. They also have a store on the site where you can buy books, t-shirts, and even those rubber bracelet's that were extremely popular a few months back. They are a good organization and well trusted by leaders in Christianity.

www.persecutedchurch.org is a good website for information about the International day of Prayer for the persecuted church. Though unfortuneately, they don't update things as often as I would prefer. Theirs nothing more annoying than going to a website in Feb. 2006 and seeing a big ad for something that happened four months ago!

www.persecution.org is more focused on raising awareness about persecution within the power centers of the world, such as washington. They are trying to hold politicians accountable for doing nothing about the atrocity's against Christians all over the world. This is the official website for International Christian Concern. Go here to sign digital petitions, support persecuted pastors, and get quick headlines in without to much text.

www.persecutionproject.org focuses mainly on Africa.

www.christianitytoday.com is the premier website of the Christian subculture in America. Here you will find articles written with a little more journalistic attention and research. (most of the other sites are run by volunteers, or they are extremely understaffed.)

www.christianfreedom.org is a great website for action. They recently publised a guide called "50 things you can do to help the persecuted church" You can download it in Adobe format.

www.releaseinternational.org is a great site--free materials.

Ok, this should be plenty to get people going if you were inspired this morning to do something more. Plenty more stuff is on the web by googling things like "persecution", "persecuted church", "persecuted christians", "martyrs". You get the point. I'm certain that there is more stuff out there that I have yet to find. Let me know what you find. Post it here on the blog. And if you plan to do something to help the persecuted church, I would love to know about it! Thanks for reading.

way too much sophomoric fun

Have you ever driven by a church sign with the changeable letters and wished you could go and rearrange the words to say something funny?
Well, now you can. Just go to www.churchsigngenerator.com and have some fun.

What's the worst church sign you've ever seen?

our first art exhibit

Yesterday, our first art exhibit was installed at 409 River St. Our education and office space. The artist name is Dean Ingraham. He's a friend of mine who lives locally. I love the way he represents nature in an abstract way. It's great to see art on our walls finally. This is something we hope will become a regular thing at Terra Nova. If you have created art that you would like to display on a sunday at Rev. Hall or for a few months at 409 River St.--talk to phil or scott.

If you attend Terra Nova, be sure to check out the exibit this sunday after the service.
